It’s always great when shooting with a relatively open brief like I’ve done for Swinburne University. This year I’ve been commissioned to shoot candid daily life photos around two of their Melbourne campuses. Below are some examples of how pictures have been used for the covers of their course handbooks.
Earlier this year, I was invited to be one of the photographic contributors to the Thames & Hudson published book ‘Characters: Cultural stories revealed through typography’ by Stephen Banham of Letterbox. The book presents extraordinary stories behind the signs seen around a city, in this case Melbourne. Having lived in Melbourne my whole life and being a collector of old signs, this was a dream job for me. I was lucky enough to shoot at some locations that are normally off limits to both photographers and the general public. These included inside the towers of the Manchester Unity and T&G buildings, and the derelict toilet block from the former Safari Park in Rockbank. The book is released nationally in early September. Below are my spreads from the book and a 2 minute youtube clip of me at work at a few of the locations. Follow the book on Facebook HERE
Along with my good friend and fellow in-public photographer David Gibson, we’ll be conducting a street photography workshop in London on the 2nd of July. The workshop is a part of the London Street Photography Festival that is taking place throughout the month of July. More details on the workshop HERE and the festival HERE
Following on from my OAO (One And Only) exhibition at Anna Pappas Gallery this year, two of the works are being blown up to billboard size and being exhibited at the CCP curated public exhibition space on the corner of Smith St and Otter St in Collingwood. The work goes up this Thursday (16th June) and will be up for a few months. To read more about it visit HERE
Earlier this year I was commissioned to shoot some candid daily life photos from around two of the Swinburne University campuses for their latest advertising campaign.
I’m now represented commercially by Sarah Ewing from SEA. Sarah returns to Melbourne after spending the last 4 years producing commercial shoots for Nick Turpin in London. Also represented by Sarah are photographers James Newman, Nick Turpin and the Melbourne illustrator and artist Adam Cruickshank. Below is the first of the SEA poster editions. I was recently commissioned by the Central Australian Stolen Generations & Families Aboriginal Corporation to document the St Mary’s Hostel reunion which took place in and around Alice Springs.
I have a 2 page spread of images from “Don’t Just Tell Them, Show Them” in the current issue of Amsterdam magazine GUP # 25 (Guide to Unique Photography). The issue of the magazine is dedicated to street photography and my work appears in a larger spread about in-public.com. Other featured in-public photographers in the spread are Joel Meyerowitz, Matt Stuart and David Solomans
